Quantic Dream Embarks on Online Gaming with Their Upcoming Fantasy Game
The studio behind Detroit: Become Human, known for immersive single-player experiences, is exploring a fresh domain with the upcoming game. Unlike their earlier hits, this free-to-play team-based spellcaster combines third-person action with calculated elements.
Core Features
Gamers control magic-wielders following distinct classes, including bruisers or assistants, and carefully assemble a set of actions from a wide array of incantations. Additionally, each participant chooses a colossal being—huge entities that can change the fight—as a trump card, though team deck synergies possess the real strength. Spellcasters can also soar around in the battleground, adding a mobility aspect infrequent in the category.
A Shift in Direction
Developers known for storytelling pivoting to social play has turned into a familiar trend. Yet, it would be premature to ignore the game just because it signifies a departure from their previous releases. The preview showcases promise for energetic, chaotic fun, and the team state it will honor the their legacy of rich plots.
This project embodies the creative spirit and advanced goals that have driven our studio for nearly three decades. We strived to bring to life a fresh type of interactive entertainment that combines action and strategy, while exploring player-shared stories. It has been an exploration of daring concepts, a chance to enter online and cooperative play, and an adventure shared by a new talented team of specialists within our studios in Paris and Montreal who created this unique world.
Narrative and Worldbuilding
While details remain limited, the notion of a shared player-driven story is compelling, with the project head labeling it a "collaborative, evolving realm." According to sources, this title will include both a "core-loop"—online fights—and a "macro-loop," which constitutes the shared narrative experience.
The developers acknowledges that this new project might generate discussion, with leadership commenting, "Spellcasters Chronicles may surprise our followers as it is significantly altered from what we have produced in the past. But embracing challenges, pushing our limits, delving into new ways of playing and telling stories, and attempting for what appears unattainable has long been part of our identity."
Future Plans
Developers behind Spellcasters Chronicles will present a more in-depth look during TwitchCon San Diego, with real-time demonstrations and a developer Q&A set for the event hours. A closed beta for the game is expected to release on PC platforms by the end of this year, and interested players can register through the dedicated portal.
